We will be having a meeting of the Sons being present so they can see how to conduct meetings and to meet the SAL's district commander. He will be there to answer any questions about our new charter. Also I would like for new members to come forth and become officers. As I am the Squadron Adviser and a full fledge SAL member myself, I will be able to explain things as well to the new squadron. We will be setting up a Constitution and By- Lays as well as meeting dates and finance junctures. I will be handing out handbooks explaining the history and over-all structure of the programs the SAL's do to help build a strong American Legion.
On the local level at the bottom of the organizational structure, is the Squadron 135, with the same offices as the the American Legion Post 135, including a Squadron Commander, Vice Squadron Commander, Adjutant, Finance Officer, Chaplain, Historian, Judge Advocate, Sergeant at Arms, and then me, the Advisor, a Liaison Officer that serves as an advocate for and negotiates on behalf of the organization to the Legion. Also assists in educating the Legion about the S.A.L So, come out and volunteer and be counted again.
It is fitting for our post to received our new charter on the 75th birthday of the Sons of the American Legion. Starting on September of 1932, it has grown to many thousands of squadrons who have greatly volunteered and contribute to the V. A. hospitals, more than any other organizations in our great nation; something they can be proud of.
Next after the Squadron level, are the District level, then the Detachment (state) level, and the National level. The S.A.L. is not as much as an organization, but a program sponsored by the Legion, but ran the same way as the Legion. So let me explain all functions to you. Spread the word and come on in. The date of our first meeting will be April 12th, 2007.
Squadron Advisor: Wes Benge.
